TATA NEXON – DETAILED REVIEW INSIDE

TATA had  been known for making products with well built quality and ones which will age longer but the  cost of mantainence and costly spares which needed to be changed quite often after a time period of 3 to 4 years which pulled people away from tata .

But now the story is changing with the acquisition of  British car maker’s Jaguar group and Land Rover . Now Tata has improved the quality quite a lot and mantainence costs are also low now .  Tata’s  Nexon is a great product on paper but let’s see how it is in real world .

EXTERIORS –

The Nexon is Tata’s car which is very close to its concept model and that’s great because everyone liked in the concept phase in the last to last auto Expo

Nexon follows up into your face design with its big headlamps which is quite  striking . Nexon impressed us with its sheer size and class leading ground clearance which would help it in going off road . Tata played a smart move by removing chrome from nexon and put contrasting colors

Move to the sides and you will observe bold shoulder line running from tail lights till front fenders .

INTERIORS & UTILITY –

The nexon comes with an all black theme with silver slate acting as a partition between which looks classy and somewhat represents interiors of some above segment cars   . You get boot lid switch int he instrument panel with various other switches , which makes nexon  look funky and cool .

For storage purpose you get pretty big and nice glove box and there’s a seperate parcel tray for keeping laptops and stuff . The door bins are also large enough to accommodate all the 1 litre bottles . The rear passengers get separate ac vents with air flow control . In the features segment you get some of the best in class like

Max power in segment – 110 hp @3750 rpm

Max Torque in segment – 260@1500-2750

Multi –Drive modes

Minimum turning radius – 5.1 m

Maximum boot space in other competitors –  350 litres

PERFORMANCE & EFFICIENCY  –

The Tata Nexon is powered by two turbocharged engines, new 1.5-litre Revotorq, 4-cylinder diesel and  new 1.2-litre Revotron, 3-cylinder petrol.

Both the variants  get 6-speed manual transmissions with power sent to the front wheels. That big round dial in the centre console of the car helps you choose between three different drive modes – Eco, City and Sport – which significantly change the way the engines perform.

Switch on the cars  On the move, especially in the city, the diesel’s usability comes to the fore. The diesel is always the smoother one to drive in the city, while the petrol suffers from low torque below 1500rpm and a typical power surge of a turbocharged engine past 2000rpm – makes the ride very jerky.

Switch to Sport and you can feel the difference in performance. The throttle response is better and the bump in power as the turbocharger kicks in is also noticeable. While the petrol is faster in the 0-100kmph sprint by more than 1.5 seconds as compared to the diesel, the diesel fares better in terms of in-gear acceleration. In the real world, this equates to the Nexon petrol being faster off the line than the diesel, but overtakes will be much faster in the latter.

In the  instrumented tests, the Nexon petrol returned 14.03kmpl in the city and 17.88kmpl on the highway. In comparison, the Nexon diesel returns 16.80kmpl in the city and an impressive 23.97kmpl on the highway.

Confidence inspiring. That is what the Nexon is when driven hard. The chassis balance is so good that you would have to drive it like an absolute nut to find its limits on the road.

On paper, the Nexon is like any other front-wheel driven vehicle. McPherson struts up front, twist-beam suspension at the rear, discs at the front, drums at the rear and in the Nexon’s case 215mm section Goodyear Excellence tyres. While the alloy wheels are 16-inch units, the tyres still have a lot of sidewall. The taller sidewalls along with the firm but pliant suspension soak up most of the road imperfections with little to no complaints.
